Thiruvananthapuram Enhances Infrastructure with Smart Electric Lights

Thiruvananthapuram is advancing its infrastructure by installing smart electric lights that can be monitored and controlled via the Internet. This marks the first project in Kerala to implement such technology, specifically in the Karamana-Pravachambalam area. The lights have been installed on the medians of a 5.5-kilometer stretch of roads as part of the Smart City project, including beautification efforts.The project, with a total cost of Rs 4.9 crore, features 184 poles that are nine meters high, each equipped with 170-watt neutral white bulbs mounted on PU-coated white conical poles. In Karamana, 170 poles have two bulbs each, while 14 poles have one bulb each. Additionally, three smart monitoring panels have been installed, with control units located at Nemam, Karakkamandapam, and Papanamkodu.The internet-enabled technology allows for the adjustment of lighting levels between 6 pm and 6 am according to road traffic conditions. To enhance safety, a 4.75-kilometer-long iron fence has been installed to prevent accidents from pedestrians crossing where there are no signals or zebra crossings. Furthermore, 50 meters of concrete have been laid at all junctions to prevent the growth of waste plants on dividers during the rainy season, ensuring clear visibility for drivers and reducing garbage accumulation.
