Malappuram's 'Oppam' Project: Empowering Differently-Abled Through Access Café

The first 'Access Café' under the under the 'Oppam' initiative, led by Malappuram District Collector V.R Vinod, has commenced operations in front of the Collectorate Conference Hall. This unique café, designed to provide a regular income for differently-abled individuals, is a joint effort by the district administration and the NSS unit of Chapanangady PMSAAVHS school. The café offers a variety of beverages and snacks, including coffee, tea, and light refreshments. It is designed with accessibility in mind, allowing those in wheelchairs to comfortably serve and interact with customers. The café will operate daily from 10 am to 5 pm.The first café is managed by AK Shamsuddin, a resident of Odhukkungal Munambathu, who is differently abled. The 'Oppam' project aims to provide specialized training and support to ensure the safety and well-being of differently-abled individuals. In collaboration with the district panchayat, the administration plans to establish similar 'Access Cafés' at various tourism centers across the Malappuram district.
