Wayanad Paves the Way for Undergraduate Studies for Equivalency Course Graduates
The Wayanad District Panchayat, in collaboration with the Literacy Mission, has launched a new scheme for students who have passed the Higher Secondary Equivalency Course. The main objective of this innovative initiative is to provide opportunities for these learners to pursue undergraduate studies. The program is being implemented with the support of Sree Narayana Guru Open University in association with the State Literacy Mission.
The District Panchayat introduced this scheme to ensure that students who have successfully completed the Higher Secondary Equivalency Course do not have to discontinue their studies due to financial constraints. Financial assistance will be provided to students who enroll in undergraduate courses at Sree Narayana Guru Open University. The District Panchayat will bear 50% of the fees for general category students, 75% for Scheduled Caste students, and 100% for Scheduled Tribe students.
In the first phase of the project, 62 students have registered, and 138 more will be given the opportunity in the second phase. Contact classes will be conducted at Kalpetta Government N.M.S.M. College and St. Mary’s College, Sultan Bathery.
This scheme enables students to continue their academic journey without financial barriers and offers them a strong platform to realise their educational aspirations. The initiative takes an important step in helping learners in Wayanad district move closer to their dreams.
