Noolpuzha Family Health Centre has received the Paristhithi Mithra Award, presented by the Indian Medical Association’s “Goes Eco-Friendly” (IMAGE) initiative. The award recognises the centre’s efforts in implementing effective biomedical waste management and raising awareness about healthcare-related environmental practices.Out of 21,792 family health centres across the state, Noolpuzha was ranked second. The recognition was given in the category of hospitals with fewer than 50 beds. The centre was honoured for its exemplary initiatives, including efficient waste management, vaccination of waste-handling staff, installation of modern equipment for waste disposal, obtaining clearance from the Pollution Control Board, and proper treatment of both plastic and general waste.A unique highlight of the centre’s commitment to environmental protection is the tree that stands tall inside its fitness centre. When a large tree on the hospital premises posed a challenge to constructing the fitness centre in 2023, the facility was designed and built around the tree instead of cutting it down. Today, about 150 people use the eco-friendly fitness centre daily, making it a model for sustainable development.Noolpuzha Family Health Centre continues to lead by example, integrating healthcare with nature through its environmentally conscious initiatives.
