Kollam has inaugurated the state's first Livestock Infertility Treatment Referral Center (RLFMC), providing essential services to dairy farmers in the region. This initiative will primarily serve farmers affiliated with selected veterinary centres in Chithara, Kollam district. The scheme is implemented by the Kerala Cattle Development Board (KLD) with funding from both the Central and State Governments. The RLFMC will operate as a referral centre, offering necessary services for cows selected for sterilization based on veterinarian recommendations, delivered right to the farmers' doorsteps.Additionally, a mobile embryo transfer laboratory will be established to facilitate the production of high-quality calves through the embryo transfer process. In its first phase, IVF techniques for embryo transfer will be available in the Chadayamangalam block.Cows eligible for treatment include those that show no signs of estrus after calving, have not undergone artificial insemination, or have been artificially inseminated three times without successful conception. This centre is the first of its kind in the state, with plans to launch similar centres soon in Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam and Kozhikode. The government's objective is to enhance reproductive efficiency and achieve self-sufficiency in milk production through this initiative.
